Innovation, biodiversity, and collaboration: reflections from Synth Biotech at ClimateGlobal2025 🌍

This week, our Director of Innovation, Tatiana Felix , had the honor of representing SYNTH BIOTECH at ClimateGlobal2025 , held in Vancouver, Canada — one of the world's most important gatherings on climate innovation .

It was a profoundly inspiring experience that made us reflect more carefully on the role of innovation ecosystems in addressing climate change .

Canada, especially the British Columbia region, is establishing itself as a true hub for green innovation . Several highlights from the panels caught our attention:

✔️ The strength of top-tier universities , which drive applied science and develop talent with global impact;

✔️ The growing network of startups and large companies focused on transitioning to a low-carbon economy;

✔️ And, above all, the appreciation of the ancestral knowledge of Canadian Indigenous peoples (First Nations) , who actively participate in building sustainable solutions — something that is genuinely respected and integrated into modern policies and technologies.

Brazil , with all its wealth of biodiversity , biomass , and natural resources , faces significant challenges. Political and economic instability continues to deter investment and compromises the continuity of structured environmental policies. There is also a significant gap between innovation centers and indigenous peoples, representing a great loss of knowledge and opportunities for collaboration .

📚 Regarding human capital, we have brilliant professionals and cutting-edge research. However, the average level of education, the challenges in the technical training of the workforce, and the difficulty in retaining talent are still real obstacles when compared to countries like Canada.

During the event, a phrase from expert Sam Hasty struck us deeply:

"It's not about the tech, it's about the context."

It's not enough to have good technological solutions . The political, social, economic, and regulatory context is what defines whether these solutions will actually scale and transform realities. And in this respect, Brazil still has a long way to go.

🌱 Despite the differences, there is a common point that inspires us: the natural potential of both countries . Brazil, with the #Amazon and its impressive diversity of biomes. Canada, with its solid #governance and consistent progress in #ClimatePolicies.

✨ We left ClimateGlobal2025 with the certainty that it is urgent:

✔️ Strengthening bridges between traditional knowledge and emerging technologies ;

✔️ Establish stable, long-term public policies that encourage #SustainableInvestment ;

✔️ To create channels of dialogue between nations that, like Brazil and Canada, have much to exchange — and to build together .

🌿 May we transform potential into impact. And may innovation increasingly mean inclusion, diversity, and environmental justice.
